Hong Kong Watch is delighted to announce that our co-founder and Chair of Trustees, Aileen Calverley, has been honored with the distinguished King Charles III Coronation Medal in Canada. This prestigious award was presented to Mrs Calverley by Melissa Lantsman MP, Deputy Leader of His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition and Patron of Hong Kong Watch.
The Coronation Medal was specifically created to mark the historic coronation of His Majesty King Charles III on 6 May 2023. It is a coveted accolade bestowed upon individuals who have made exceptional contributions to Canada and its communities. Crafted by the Royal Canadian Mint, this medal represents a landmark in Canadian history as the first of its kind to commemorate a coronation.
Mrs Calverley’s remarkable contributions to Canadian society have earned her this recognition. Her efforts in shaping positive policy outcomes related to protecting fundamental freedoms and defending human rights in Hong Kong have been exemplary. She regularly advocates for these causes in the Parliament of Canada in Ottawa and the US Congress in Washington, DC, amplifying the voices of the Hong Kong community. Mrs Calverley has been instrumental in assisting newcomers from Hong Kong to Canada, helping them integrate and thrive in their new home.
Aileen Calverley, co-founder and Chair of Trustees of Hong Kong Watch, said:
“I am deeply honored to receive this award. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Melissa Lantsman MP for her unwavering support of the Hong Kong community and for presenting me with this medal. I wish to share this distinction with all the devoted Hong Kong Watch staff and volunteers who have worked tirelessly to help new Hong Kong immigrants settle in Canada, enabling them to build new lives and enrich our society. Together, we proudly call this remarkable nation our home.”
