Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has issued a title warning to Liverpool going into the March international break. The Reds were in Carabao Cup final action on Sunday, while the Gunners faced Chelsea in the Premier League.

Liverpool were beaten in the Carabao Cup final at the hands of Newcastle United at Wembley Stadium. A few hours earlier, Arsenal claimed a 1-0 win over Chelsea in the Premier League to see the Reds' gap at the top of the table reduced to 12 points.

There are now more than two weeks until Liverpool return to Premier League action. That will see the Reds host Everton in the Merseyside derby on April 2 at Anfield, at which point their lead at the top of the table could be reduced even further.

Before Liverpool face Everton, Arsenal will host Fulham 24 hours earlier at the Emirates Stadium. With nine matches left to play for both clubs, Arteta has issued a warning to the Reds ahead of the upcoming title run-in.

"We have to win our football matches, that's what it has to be," Arteta told reporters on Sunday. "Win against Fulham, and we'll be closer."

Arne Slot and Co. have endured a difficult week going into the international break. As well as losing to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final, the Reds were also knocked out of the Champions League at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain just a few days earlier.

Liverpool's only chance of winning a major trophy this season rests on the Premier League title. In Arsenal's case, they will have a Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid to navigate while dealing with a busy run of top-flight fixtures when the campaign resumes in April.
