AFC Bournemouth v Brentford – Highlights & Reaction

AFC Bournemouth hosted Brentford on Sky Sports Saturday Night Football over the weekend, a side that the Cherries have never beaten in the Premier League a statistic that unfortunately for the home side is a statistic that remains.

The result of course also extends the Cherries recent run of form that has been running since February, which now extends the Cherries run of form to one victory in six Premier Leagues.

The Cherries have now fallen to tenth in the Premier League table, 4 points adrift of the fifth place and 3 points ahead of falling into the bottom half of the table.

After the game, AFC Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola told Sky Sports…

“It is frustrating to lose because we did a lot of good things. We probably had the better chances to score but we are not efficient enough, we don’t make that difference.

“We need to create a lot of chances and other teams like Brentford need fewer chances to score. They were more efficient than us. They punished us. We haven’t found the chances well when we are creating them and that is the main difference.

“When you have the clearest chances but at the end of the day, what matters is the points. We need to improve in the decisive moments because in the end that is what makes the difference.”

Not even sure that was a performance issue. When you batter teams consistently and only score two or three, can you really complain when the levels dip and the goals scale down?

Poor finishing has been an issue the entire season if we’re being honest. xG has us (or at least had us) 3rd. That was one of our lowest levels of performance and we still spaffed it away kind of.

Dreadful defending for both goals as well.

Again we haven’t beaten Brentford in this league and basically they put their two chances away from 10 shots with 4 on target.

We took the lead from a Kerkez cross that went in off Janelt’s shoulder for an og.

In our 17 shots on goal with 5 on target, we hit the crossbar.

Sinisterra came on in the 67th minute and subbed on the 85th minute.

So in our last two games, we have taken the lead, one ended in a draw, the other in defeat.

In our last three league games we have had more shots than our opponents and on target, but only have 1 point to show for it.

But Spurs was definitely 2 points lost after that brilliant performance from our team.

That was frustrating.

We can’t take our chances or defend set pieces. I don’t like Frank, but he is a good manager who has organised a good team in Brentford with fairly mid-range players and a good structure.

To me, this game highlights why Andoni shouldn’t go to a bigger club. He needs to figure out how to beat an organized, resolute side that will defend playing for a draw and hoping to get something from a set piece.

He should stay with us for, two years at least. – To join the conversation, please click here.
