David Ornstein now says Liverpool left-back deal 'stands a chance'

Ornstein: Kerkez 'a strong option' for Liverpool

The 21-year-old has been in sensational form this season for the Cherries and looks set for the next step in his career. However, with the Hungary international under contract until 2028, he won’t come cheap and the club are likely to face competition for his signature.

Described by Ornstein as a ‘strong’ option, Kerkez’s arrival would mean either Robertson or Tsikimas being offloaded.

“They will have a shortlist or potential targets, obviously,” he wrote. “The likes of Nuno Mendes and Alphonso Davies were highly thought of at Anfield but both have now signed new contracts.

“Kerkez was and remains a strong option, who Bournemouth will be open to doing business for if their financial expectations are met.

“This one definitely stands a chance but the price is likely to be above what Liverpool would normally pay for a full-back - plus I'm sure like they will have other options, he will have multiple suitors - so we'll have to see how it develops.

“Don't forget they already have two top level left-backs in AR and KT so you imagine one of them will need to go if another senior player is to arrive in that position.”

Kerkez has played 29 times in the Premier League this season, scoring twice and adding five assists. The former AC Milan youth player has emerged as one of the strongest left-backs in the league since arriving from AZ in summer 2023.

He was signed by current sporting director Richard Hughes and the Reds will be hoping the pair’s previous relationship will smooth overany negotiations.
