David Beckham took to social media to congratulate Newcastle United after their Carabao Cup win
David Beckham's deep rooted respect for Newcastle United came to the fore again after the club's thrilling 2-1 victory over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final.
Eddie Howe's side celebrated an incredible win at Wembley Stadium on Sunday evening, clinching their first piece of silverware since 1969. Dan Burn's goal gave Newcastle the lead going into half-time and Alexander Isak added another to solidify the advantage after the break.
It wasn't until stoppage time that Federico Chiesa scored for Arne Slot's side, but the Reds were unable to level the score. Beckham has spoken highly of Newcastle over the years and post-match, he posted on his Instagram story to applaud the Magpies' victory, while highlighting the team's passionate fanbase.
The football icon wrote: "Amazing moment today for a club with some of the best and most loyal supporters in the game... congratulations to all the Geordies [white and black heart emoji] @nufc."
Beckham's message for the Magpies appears to come from a place of great admiration. In an interview with Classic Football Shirts back in November 2023, the former England captain disclosed that his fondness for Newcastle stems from his younger days, as per Chronicle Live.
"Newcastle always had good shirts, to be honest," Beckham said. "I've always loved Newcastle as a club, I love the fans, I love the way they are.

"We played up in Newcastle for England and they were amazing." However, Beckham's esteem for the North East outfit even saw him partly intervene in their manager search back in 2019.
In July of that year, former Newcastle boss Steve Bruce revealed that it was none other than Beckham who encouraged him to fill the shoes of Rafael Benitez at St James's Park.
Speaking on whether his loved ones advised him to accept the Newcastle role, the 64-year-old said: "Yeah, tons of them. 'You've got to do it', people said. "I don't want to mention names, but David Beckham was one of them. I'll have to show my daughter that text message."
Following Newcastle's formidable performance against Liverpool, Beckham's focus will pivot to Inter Miami's upcoming showdown with Atlanta United. The England legend will be keen to see Javier Mascherano’s team continue their undefeated streak in the MLS with Miami having won three and drawn one of their first four games.
