Turkey’s Competition Authority has launched an investigation into six major streaming platforms over alleged violations of the country’s competition law, the state-run Anadolu news agency reported on Sunday.
The probe targets global streaming giants Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime as well as Turkish platforms BluTV, Exxen and Gain.
The decision to open the investigation was made during a board meeting on February 27, following a preliminary inquiry into whether the platforms had engaged in anti-competitive practices, according to a statement from the authority.
Regulators will examine whether the platforms violated the competition law by signing exclusive agreements or engaging in other restrictive practices that could limit market competition.
The investigation comes as Turkey’s on-demand video market experiences rapid growth, raising concerns about potential anti-competitive behavior.
