Three Man Utd stars feature in BBC’s Premier League Team of the Week, Ruben Amorim’s warrior praised for ‘massive’…

BBC Sport pundit Troy Deeney singled out three standout Manchester United players under Ruben Amorim in his latest Premier League Team of the Week.

Ruben Amorim’s men were in Premier League action on the weekend for one final time in March ahead of the start of the international break.

Leicester City hosted Manchester United at the King Power Stadium and the Red Devils secured a comfortable 3-0 Premier League win on Sunday evening.

Amorim’s side took the lead in the first half after Rasmus Hojlund ended his 21-match goalscoring drought and finally scored for United for the first time in 2025.

United were 1-0 up at half time at the King Power Stadium and the Red Devils stepped up their performance in the second half and outclassed Leicester City.

Alejandro Garnacho doubled United’s advantage after the break before Bruno Fernandes, who picked up two assists, fired home the Red Devils’ third of the match.

Why Matthijs de Ligt featured in BBC Sport’s Premier League Team of the Week

Matthijs de Ligt played the full 90 minutes in the three-man backline of Ruben Amorim’s tactical system for Manchester United and impressed with his display.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Troy Deeney insisted that the 25-year-old Dutchman is establishing himself “more as a leader” in the United first team under Amorim.

The BBC Sport pundit highlighted the impact that Matthijs de Ligt had in United’s 3-0 win over Leicester City, including his “massive block” to keep his side in the lead.

“Growing more and more as a leader in this Man Utd team,” Deeney said.

“Not many would have remembered it, but at 1-0 there was a massive block that he makes and it keeps Man Utd winning. No airs, no graces, he just gets the job done.”

What Troy Deeney spotted from Man Utd stars Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes vs Leicester City

Joining Matthijs de Ligt in Deeney’s BBC Sport Premier League Team of the Week were none other than Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes.

Deeney praised Fernandes for being a “key part” of how United are playing right now under United manager Amorim and has tipped him to only become “better.”

“A key part to how Man Utd are playing,” he said.

“Fernandes gets more credit for his assists and goals, two assists and a goal obviously, and as this Man Utd team gets better so will he.”

Speaking on Garnacho, Deeney pointed out that the 20-year-old Spain-born attacker “showed his commitment” with his contribution to United’s win on Sunday.

“He scored his first goal for 24 games against Leicester and the way he finished showed his pitch geography,” he explained.

“He didn’t look where he was, made pure contact. He drove forward, got at the Leicester defenders a lot and showed his commitment to the cause with his digging in.”

United will visit City Ground for their first match post-March international break and will face Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on 1st April.
