Expert: Liverpool plan to accept Jota offer

Mick Brown

Mon 17 March 2025 12:38, UK

Liverpool are prepared to accept offers for Diogo Jota this summer as Arne Slot eyes a major attacking reshuffle in his squad.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Jota could be one of multiple forward to leave Anfield this summer.

Slot is believed to have grown frustrated with his attacking options and will listen to offers for the likes of Jota, Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz if they arrive.

Jota, 28, has scored just five Premier League goals in 18 appearances so far this season and there is a growing feeling he could be sold to make way for a new signing.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider last month that Liverpool want to sign a world-class goalscorer to lead the line at Anfield.

There is a growing feeling that an out-and-out striker will be targeted this summer, as Newcastle’s Alexander Isak has been heavily linked with Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Brown told Football Insider on 10 February that Arsenal are interest in signing Jota and could make a move as Mikel Arteta’s looks to improve his attacking options.

Liverpool to accept Diogo Jota bid after Alexander Isak news

Liverpool supporters were hugely critical of Jota following his performance in the Carabao Cup final defeat against Newcastle on 16 March.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that Jota’s departure could allow Slot to strengthen his side in the summer.

“Liverpool are looking at their team and assessing areas they can improve,” he told Football Insider.

“They’ve become a little bit predictable in recent weeks, which will be an issue.

“One of their strengths has been that they’ve got five or six forwards, and any three of those could start on any given day.

“But I don’t think Slot has been particularly happy with what those players are giving to him.

“Jota, I hear, has been particularly disappointing, and he’s one they will look to move on.

“If they can bring in a decent fee for him, it will allow them to go and spend it on a replacement.

“I think clubs will be interested in him so perhaps there’s a deal to be done.

“Slot wants to refresh his attacking options to give Liverpool something new, but at the moment the options they’ve got means there’s no space.

“His sale and perhaps a couple of others would free that space, wages, and money to spend on improvements this summer.”

Arne Slot eyes Marcus Thuram deal after Arsenal latest

As part of Liverpool’s plans for the future, they have been targeting a number of attacking players and are assessing multiple options to strengthen up front.

Football Insider revealed on 16 March that Liverpool are interested in signing Marcus Thuram from Inter Milan but will face competition from Arsenal.

The 27-year-old France international has a £71million release clause in his contract, but Inter are attempting to negotiate a new deal.

Alongside Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea, a number of European sides are also said to have been placed on alert by his release clause despite Inter’s despite to renew his terms.
