On March 17, commencing at 6:25 p.m. Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting (for approximately 45 minutes) and a working dinner (for approximately 90 minutes), with H.E. Mr. Murat NURTLEU, Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, during his visit to Japan as a guest of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA). The overview is as follows.

Taking this opportunity, the Ministers signed and exchanged “Action Plan for cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

At the outset, Minister Iwaya welcomed the visit to Japan by Minister Nurtleu as a guest of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. Minister Iwaya expressed his intention to cooperate with Kazakhstan, which is important strategic partner in order to maintain and strengthen the free and open international order based on the rule of law.

Minister Nurtleu expressed his gratitude for the invitation as a guest of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and expressed his desire to deepen the bilateral relation between Japan and Kazakhstan and regional cooperation utilizing the framework of the “Central Asia plus Japan” Dialogue.

The Ministers exchanged views on the cooperation in a wide range of areas, such as disaster prevention and mitigation, energy sector and decarbonization, stimulation of business exchanges including the movement of people and goods, as well as cooperation in the areas of nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation.

The Ministers also exchanged views on regional and international situations, including those in Central Asia and concurred on closely working together in the international arena.
