‘Not the only one’: Wolves player makes shock squad fitness revelation after Southampton win

Wolves will head into the international break high on confidence after beating Southampton at St Mary’s.

The win against the bottom of the table side was as untidy as it was emphatic, as the Old Gold took a considerable step away from the bottom three.

Wolves’ chances of being relegated dropped significantly after the victory, as Jorgen Strand Larsen netted a brace to win the game on the South Coast.

After the action on matchday 29, some believe that the relegation places have already been decided, which is music to Vitor Pereira’s ears.

Matt Doherty makes fitness claim about Wolves squad

With a big win to savour, Wolves will head into the international break with some room to manoeuvre when domestic play resumes in April.

In what has been a remarkable turnaround since Pereira’s arrival, the Wolves squad will relish a break from Premier League action for more reasons than one.

Defender Matt Doherty revealed that the ‘a lot’ of the squad are battling through ‘pain’, and are therefore welcoming the upcoming break.

The Irishman was discussing Strand Larsen’s impact whilst playing with a broken hand when he revealed to Wolves’ official website that several of his teammates are also struggling.

“We know he’s [Strand Larsen] a very good striker and he cost a lot of money for us, and he’s not the only one who is playing through the pain barrier, I think there’s a lot of us doing that.

“But now some of the lads have got a nice little break and a few of us will go away on internationals and try to come back fresh.”

Unsurprisingly, the bustling schedule and the significance of every fixture has weighed heavy on the players, who are pushing themselves to the limit to represent the Old Gold.

Time for Jorgen Strand Larsen to recuperate

The squad are battling hard, with Strand Larsen being the talk of the town against Southampton despite having heavy strapping on his hand.

Fortunately, the Norweigan is set for a rest to recover from his hand fracture, as it was announced that Strand Larsen has been dropped from international action.

It’s a plus for Wolves and their striker, who will be desperate to end the season on a high after his match-winning brace against Southampton.

Rest is required to ensure the summer signing can return to full fitness however, the international break is not set to be so kind to some of his Wolves teammates.

Andre and Matheus Cunha will travel to South America to represent Brazil, with a lot of travelling on the cards for a host of players.
