Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Liverpool have made contact with representatives close to Alexander Isak.

The 25-year-old has been in scintillating form this season, netting 19 goals in 25 Premier League appearances.

He showcased his quality to his potential future teammates with a calm finish to put Newcastle 2-0 up in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final.

And it seems that the Reds are now looking to accelerate a transfer for the Swedish international.

David Ornstein recently confirmed that Isak is a Liverpool target.

Any move for Isak would likely shatter Liverpool’s transfer record, currently standing at the £85 million package paid for Darwin Nunez. Reports suggest Newcastle would demand well in excess of £100 million for their prized asset.

Speaking on his YouTube channel today, Romano revealed that the Magpies striker is well in the club’s sight with the Reds having already made contract with his entourage:

“Liverpool have already made contact with people close to Alexander Isak.”

“Big big massive proposals will come to the table for Alexander Isak,” the Italian said.

“Newcastle keep insisting in private and public that they want to keep Isak.”

Romano added that Mikel Arteta will be in the queue during the summer however:

“Arsenal will be there, they want Isak and both clubs are interested. For Arsenal, he is the absolute top target.”

“For Liverpool, he’s one of the names they are considering in that position,” the transfer journalist clarified.

Finally, Romano seemed to hint that while Newcastle don’t want to sell, every club has their price:

“We will see what Newcastle want to do, they keep insisting on their position… but we know when there is important money on the table, sometimes it’s about the Financial Fair Play and all of these things.”

The substantial asking price Newcastle will demand will likely be a sizeable profit margin on the £63 million they invested to bring Isak from Real Sociedad in August 2022.

The striker has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most feared forwards, scoring 57 goals in 99 appearances for the Magpies.
