Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the latest Liverpool news after a disappointing Carabao Cup final on Sunday evening.

Liverpool’s attack appeared disjointed and ineffective against a well-organized Newcastle defense, with the team managing a mere two shots on target throughout the entire match despite their reputation as one of Europe’s strongest attacking forces.

Question marks remain over the potency of Arne Slot’s forward ranks without the genius of Mohamed Salah.

Online discourse post-match was dominated by the lack of clinical finish and consistency outside of the Egyptian.

Now Fabrizio Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, has confirmed that Liverpool could look to part ways with Luis Diaz:

“There is a concrete possibility for Luis Diaz to leave Liverpool in the summer.”

“At the moment, it is not something guaranteed but it’s a possibility.”

“There was Saudi clubs interested in Luis Diaz last summer, but he decided to continue at Liverpool. One year ago [2024 summer window] there was interest from Manchester City – it was genuine.”

“Barcelona is looking for a winger and Luis Diaz is appreciated by some people internally at the club.”

“We also have to understand finically in terms of how much Barca can invest, in terms of transfer fee, and in terms of salary.”

In truth, every transfer window there has always been some form of murmurings amongst news outlets that Diaz could depart Anfield – with Barcelona frequently touted as his likely destination.

In 139 appearances for the club, the Colombian has contributed 37 goals and 15 assists – a respectable but not exceptional return compared to his predecessor Sadio Mane, who registered 120 goals and 38 assists in 269 matches.

With his Liverpool contract running until 2027, there is no immediate pressure to sell, but the club may see this summer as the optimal time to maximize Diaz’s transfer value before he enters his thirties.

At 28, Diaz is unlikely to see his market value increase significantly in future years, particularly given his history with a serious knee injury in the 2022-23 season.
