Newcastle erupts into celebrations

The lads lifted the trophy at Wembley, but the biggest party happened at home last night.

Fireworks exploded and car horns rang out across Tyneside as the whistle was blown on full-time and Newcastle ended their decades long silverware drought.

Thousands of fans gathered to watch the match at spots around the city before descending on St James' Park to mark the moment.

Blyth's Burn puts the Magpies in front

It was looking like the game was going to be 0-0 at half-time, until Dan Burn from Blyth met Kieran Trippier's corner with a terrific header in the 45th minute.

His goal ensured Newcastle United went into the break 1-0 ahead.

Isak takes the Toon Army from exasperation to euphoria

Shortly after the second-half got underway, Swedish superstar Alexander Isak thought he had scored the Magpies' second, but his goal was disallowed after the match officials ruled captain Bruno Guimaraes was in the goalkeeper's sight.

However, the fans' disappointment didn't last long, as just moments later Isak found the back of the net again.

This time there was no question that the goal would count, putting Newcastle 2-0 in front just minutes into the second-half.

The 'best day' of Ant and Dec's lives

Geordie presenting duo Ant and Dec were in the stands at Wembley to support their home team.

They were seen celebrating throughout the game but took to social media afterwards to voice their happiness.

In a post on Instagram on Monday morning, the pair are heard shouting with joy before Dec declares: "It's the best day of my life...apart from the wedding and the kids."

Ant chimes in with agreements on all fronts, adding a shout of "it's amazing".

Sam Fender's support on and off the pitch

If it was not enough that the players on the pitch were sporting shirts plugging the North East's own Sam Fender's latest album, People Watching, the singer-songwriter made his own pledge of support from the stage in Germany.

Clad in an NUFC shirt himself, Fender was watching the game from backstage in Berlin and even rewrote some of his lyrics in honour of man of the match Dan Burn.

The singer can be seen singing "What is god? His name is Dan Burn" in a story he posted on Instagram last night.

And, as Fender came on stage in Berlin on Sunday night, his band played the Geordie anthem 'Local Hero'.

Tears of joy

After the final whistle, many Newcastle United fans everywhere were moved to tears, but unlike two years ago this time it was tears of joy.

And it wasn't just the supporters who were emotional, captain Bruno Guimaraes gave a moving post-match interview.

The Brazilian said: "When I first came here, I said I wanted to put my name in the club's history.

"The fans deserve everything, it's one of the best days of my life.

"For them, this is like the World Cup. People have died, people have grown up, and they have not seen Newcastle champions and now they are seeing it."

Seventy years of hurt gone but not forgotten

Most Newcastle United fans have never seen the club win a major domestic trophy, with the last one before now being the FA Cup way back in 1955.

But one 79-year-old supporter at a fanzone who remembered that day in 1955, and can now say he has seen it happen again.

Precious cargo - it's coming home

Hours after the night of their lives, NUFC are finally bringing their precious trophy home.

Newcastle Untied posted a picture of manager Eddie Howe sat next to a very welcome "extra passenger" heading north on a plane on Monday afternoon.

The big question now for fans is when they will clap eyes on it again. The wait is on for news of the parade.
