**YORK VALKYRIE coach Lindsay Anfield is looking forward to seeing her reshaped squad in competitive action for the first time when they kick-off their Challenge Cup campaign at Huddersfield Giants next month.**
While new faces Ellie Williamson, Jazz Rampton, Demi Fisher, Izzy Bibby and Tara Moxon have arrived at the club, many others have moved on.
Lacey Owen, Daisy Sanderson, Ellie Hendry, Lucy Eastwood, Remi Wilton, Kira Fitzpatrick, Eva Izumi and Bettie Lambert have all left, while Georgia Taylor has joined Anfield’s backroom staff alongside captaining Sheffield Eagles.
In addition to the new arrivals, Lisa Parker, Lauren Exley, Agnes Wood, Izzy Brennan and Evie Sexton have also signed first-team deals after featuring last season having either been promoted from the under 19s or joined on short-term deals from dual-registration partners Sheffield.
Add to this the long-term absences of Tara Jane Stanley, Kelsey Gentles, Ash Hyde and Liv Gale and it is looks set to be a very different York team that will take to the field in 2025.
“We’ve got a smaller squad this year but it’s been good to freshen things up and get some new faces in – that has given us a new dynamic,” said Anfield.
“Everyone is challenging each other – not only competitively on the field but also for starting shirts, and it is great to have that sort of environment.
“We’ve had players come in from a mix of places and experiences and over the last couple of years we have worked hard to generate a really good leadership team.
“Those leaders have been really pivotal in making sure we’re guiding these new players in the right way and to reach the high standards we expect.
“We’re not far away from the Challenge Cup staring now and we just need to get started to see where are and challenge ourselves.
“But so far we’re looking fit and sharp so I’m really please with how things are at the moment.”
