Midfielder pushing for Leeds United move amid summer transfer expectations

Leeds United have been heavily linked with a move for Kalvin Phillips and the midfielder is ‘pushing’ for the switch, as per Football Insider.

Leeds United are currently embroiled in the fight for promotion from the Championship. LUFC are battling with Sheffield United and Burnley for one of the top two spots.

The trio have all been fantastic this season, but they’ve all dropped points of late too. It means no clear frontrunner for the title nor an automatic promotion spot has emerged.

Nonetheless, the Elland Road outfit are making potential Premier League transfer plans to ensure they’re ready for a rise to the top-flight if they achieve such a feet in the coming weeks and months.

One man heavily linked with Leeds United this summer is Kalvin Phillips, though promotion will be key in facilitating a move. Now, Football Insider says the former LUFC star is ‘pushing’ for the move back to Yorkshire.

It has been a tough few years for the former England international since leaving but with promotion, there could be little preventing Phillips from a Yorkshire reunion.

Manchester City are expected to sell the 29-year-old once his Ipswich Town loan ends and the player is doing what he can to make his Elland Road comeback too.

Few complaints over a Phillips reunion

Phillips’ career might not have followed the trajectory many expected once he left Leeds United. Between form, injuries and favour, the midfielder has not kicked on as hoped unfortunately.

However, the Leeds-born star remains an adored figure at Elland Road. Emerging as an unlikely star in a deeper position under Marcelo Bielsa, he was key to the Whites’ progression and ultimate stay in the Premier League, starring upon the step up from the Championship too.

He became an England regular and a standout midfielder, and if there’s anyone who wants to see Phillips back at his brilliant best, it is his fellow Leeds United fans.

Getting the job done

The relevant club figures may well be making outlines for summer transfer plans if promotion is won, but the job is far from done for Daniel Farke and his Leeds United players.

Some recent dropped points mean they are level on points with Sheffield United, sitting 1st and 2nd respectively. Burnley and their water-tight defence are only two points behind, so the prospect of missing out on the top two remains a very real one.

This two-week break will be a welcome one for LUFC, providing an opportunity to recharge before the run-in.
