Barry Ferguson has stepped into the hot seat on an interim basis - and has boosted his chances of landing the job permanently by seeing off Jose Mourinho and Fenerbahce to reach the Europa League quarter-final and beating the Hoops on their own turf.
But the likes of Gerrard, Rafa Benitez, Russell Martin and Kevin Muscat have been floated as contenders to land the job when the takeover at Rangers is completed.
And the Scottish Premiership winning boss would post a bicep emoji on Instagram with a picture of the score on Instagram.
The move comes amid a groundswell of support from Rangers fans to give the job to iconic captain Ferguson beyond the end of the current campaign.

The victory over Celtic in Glasgow's east end was watched bu American tycoon Andrew Cavenagh from the stands - who is the leading force behind the Rangers takeover.
Cavenagh was also in Istanbul to watch Ferguson’s side romp to a stunning 3-1 win over Fenerbahce - before jetting into Scotland to catch the home leg as Jose Mourinho's men were sent crashing out the Europa League.
But former Light Blues' goalkeeper Cammy Bell reckons it may be too soon to make the appointment - while conceded the incoming owners may have their own boss in mind.
He told the BBC's Scottish Football podcast: "Listen, there is going to be new owners at the club so they will make the decision, but all Barry Ferguson can do is win games of football.
Rangers Interimboss Barry Ferguson
"That is what he said when he came in - he wants to win games of football. He will obviously want to be the Rangers manager long-term, but for his own managerial career he is not doing himself any harm at all.
"This week has been a fantastic week for Rangers; progressing in Europe, win at Celtic Park. He is doing himself no harm at all.
"I think it is too early to say 'yes he is the man for the job' - and the fans can call for what they want, but these guys will come in at the top and assess it. They will make the decision."
