Eddie Howe has just made history at Newcastle United and Gary Lineker has been left in disbelief at a record he’s broken in the Carabao Cup final.
Newcastle United have finally got their hands on a trophy again after 70 long years by defeating Liverpool 2-1 in the Carabao Cup final.
Every single player will go down as a hero but particularly legendary status will go to Dan Burn and Alexander Isak for scoring the crucial goals.
There was late fear it could all go wrong after a Bruno Guimaraes mistake allowed Federico Chiesa to pull one back.
However, it would be Newcastle’s day in Wembley and it wasn’t only the Magpies who broke a long-waited trophy drought.

Eddie Howe makes English football history with Carabao Cup win
By guiding Newcastle to a trophy triumph, Howe has become the first English manager to actually win a major trophy in 17 years.
The last to do so was Harry Redknapp when he won the FA Cup with Portsmouth in 2008.
Speaking on The Rest is Football, Gary Lineker was left stunned by the record that Howe has now obliterated.

He said: “You felt like with the domination in the first half and the chances that they had, like they really needed to get that goal and to get it just before halftime was a real Philip for them.
“But again, you said about Eddie Howe is I think he’s the first English manager to win a domestic trophy since Harry Redknapp, which was quite a few… Was it 2008?
“It’s mad really. You know there’s still no English manager won the Premier League yet either.”
Howard Wilkinson was the last English manager to win the English league with Leeds United in 1992, the last season before the Premier League began.

Micah Richards is delighted for Eddie Howe
It’s been a long journey for Howe to finally claim a trophy for Newcastle, with the Toon bouncing back from final heartbreak in 2023 after losing 2-0 to Manchester United at Wembley.
Newcastle didn’t turn up that day but they were determined that wouldn’t be the case this time around.
Micah Richards, who was left baffled by Guimaraes in the match, was speaking with Lineker and shared his delight for the manager.
He said: “I was just so happy for Eddie Hower because it’s a tough spot at Newcastle. You have new owners and everything thinks you’re going to spend loads of money but obviously FFP comes into play and it’s very difficult.
“You’ve got all this money but you can’t spend it So you need to work with the players and improve them.”
