Aston Villa defender Kortney Hause has provided a rare update on his return from a long injury nightmare
Aston Villa defender Kortney Hause, who hasn’t played for over two and a half years following a serious knee injury in 2022, has posted a rare update on his fitness on social media.
Hause, 29, has been working on his rehabilitation following his long injury nightmare and posted a story on his Instagram account which showed him smiling broadly while reclining on a massage table with the caption “Looking good. Feeling better. Gotta fight the good fight”, along with lion and thumbs-up emojis.

The story hints that Hause may be getting closer to fitness after being unable to play since 29 October 2022, when he was on loan with Watford in the Championship and suffered a knee issue which has plagued him ever since.
Hause still expected to leave Villa despite positive progress
Hause signed for Villa from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2019 for a reported £3m fee after a successful loan spell, but struggled to nail down a regular starting spot in the side after promotion back to the Premier League.
That led to his loan to Watford, which was cut short by an injury from which he has yet to fully recover following numerous setbacks. In total, Hause has made just 43 appearances for Aston Villa since joining the club.
Villa have supported Hause throughout his long rehabilitation process and he has been back at work at the club’s Bodymoor Heath training facility as he works to regain his fitness.

Nevertheless, he is expected to leave this summer when his contract expires, with The Athletic reporting that both club and player share a “desire for a fresh start”. BirminghamWorld has previously reported that Hause himself has accepted that leaving Villa would be the correct decision.
Hope for Hause as Villa mull defensive options
While Hause may not have any further role to play at Villa Park, seeing him smiling and posting positive updates concerning his progress in what has been a gruelling recovery process raises hopes that the former England Under-21 international may be able to play again next season, even if he has to find a new club at which to take his next steps.
Villa, meanwhile, will continue to work to find further defensive reinforcements, with a new centre-half believed to be a key priority in the summer transfer market. Injuries to regular starters such as Pau Torres this season have exposed a lack of depth at the back and Unai Emery is keen to address the problem permanently after signing Chelsea’s Axel Disasi on loan in January.
With no option to buy the Frenchman in his deal, the move may not be made permanent when the transfer window re-opens, and Villa have been linked with several centre-backs including former Tottenham Hotspur man Juan Foyth, who was managed by Emery at Villarreal. Sadly, Hause is unlikely to be a part of the rotation next season even if he can complete a remarkable recovery.
In other news, Aston Villa have been linked with a bid for rising Cardiff City star Troy Perrett.
