"It's Not Nice": Fernandes Opens Up On Roy Keane's Scorching Criticism

Manchester United continued their good run of form in the Premier League as goals from Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes saw The Red Devils see off Leicester City 3-0 at the King Power.

It was probably the most comfortable United have looked all season as both Hojlund and Garnacho both broke their substantial scoring droughts while Ayden Heaven was very impressive in his first Premier League start before he had to be stretchered off in the second half.

United have somewhat changed their fortunes over the past month since they loss to Tottenham in February. They are unbeaten in the league, progressed to the quarterfinals of the Europa League and were knocked out of the FA Cup only on penalties against Fulham.

While it's still nowhere near where many expect United to be, there's be the ever slimmest rays of sunlight on Old Trafford that has given fans more hope that Ruben Amorim could be the man to turn it around and bring United back to glory.

One man that really has stepped up in the last while has been Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese midfielder was instrumental in United's 4-1 win over Real Sociedad in the Europa League and has shown good leadership during this tough period at Old Trafford. This good run of form has come after doubts were cast over Fernandes' suitability for the armband, with Roy Keane giving a passionate rant on Stick To Football about United and Fernandes.

Speaking following United's win at Leicester, Bruno Fernandes spoke about Keane's criticism and how he accepts that some people don't like the way he captain's the side.

It’s not nice to hear those things about you, I think no one likes that. But at the same time, it motivates and makes you think people think there's a lot of things you have to improve.

You have to take it in a positive way, and think whatever people are saying, if there's a margin for improvement or not. I know you're talking about Roy Keane.

I have huge respect for Roy Keane. I think he was one of the best captains the club had. An amazing player for the club, won basically everything for this club.

It's the way he thinks about me as a player, as a captain. I have to respect that. I try to do the things in my own way to be not the best captain but person and team-mate as I can. I do it every day. I try to be an example in everything I do in the training sessions, on the pitch.

But obviously, not everyone will like (it), not everyone will think in the same way, and I respect every opinion of everyone. I have to accept there is a lot of margin for improvement in my game and my leadership.

Manchester United has now moved up to 13th in the Premier League table. It looks like European qualification is out of touch in the league, but United still have a good chance of winning the Europa League and with that Champions League qualification. United remain the only unbeaten side in Europe and after what has been a nightmare season at Old Trafford, if they end up qualifying for the Champions League it will be a huge success for the club.
