Ruben Amorim
Ruben Amorim has got the hearts of Manchester United fans
Ruben Amorim's Manchester United are one month unbeaten for the first time since the Portuguese's first three games in charge of the club. The win over Leicester City rounded-off a great week for United to leave them in a good place for the final stretch of the season.
Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho ended their goal droughts with Bruno Fernandes leading by example once again with two assists and another goal to add to his midweek hat-trick.
It was far from United's best and Amorim admitted that after the game. Yet the timings of the goals, defensive stability and lack of severe pressure from Ruud van Nistelrooy's men meant United never got out of second gear.
Above all from the King Power Stadium, it was clear that United fans really do love Amorim. The Portuguese have endured a difficult start to life in England, something that has softened in recent weeks. Despite this, he has continued to talk with pride and defend his players.
Erik ten Hag once had the hearts of United fans, no more so when he led the club to the Carabao Cup and then the FA Cup last year, but he lost their faith fairly quickly this term. Amorim, a man who has won just two more games than he has lost so far, is adored by United's hardcore band of travelling supporters.
After Hojlund placed the ball into the corner of Mads Hermansen's goal, United fans spent 12 minutes chanting their manager's name. The chant goes: "Ruben Amorim! He'll bring the glory days again, We'll back him from the Stretford End, He'll turn the reds around," to the tune of Bonnie Tylor's 'It's a heartache'.
The same chant followed in the second-half, at least three times as the game went on. For the fans, they have a manager who keeps himself to himself, constantly pacing across the dug-out, but his philosophy is finally starting to shine through.
To be fair to the thousands that made the trip to Leicester on Sunday night, they didn't stop singing throughout the game. Wayne Rooney, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ruud van Nistelrooy all had their songs' chanted.
In what was my first encounter with the United boss, I was more than pleased. A calm, confident figure in the press conference when quizzed on his side's performance. The raving support from the travelling contingent was a subject put to him and he answered it in the best fashion.
"I cannot understand, I just want to win games for them to have these good moments that they deserved," he told BBC Sport when asked with a huge grin. "We are far from what they want for this club."
He added in the press conference: "It’s strange. They’ve given me a lot of responsibility but I don’t care about that because I know we’re so far away from what they expect and what they deserve.
"So, I know that I’m not going to feel a lot better. I just want to win to improve our performance and we’re far from what we need to show to our fans.”
United under Amorim are far from the finished product. But after a really difficult season, there is real hope that the Portuguese can do what he brought to the club to do and 'turn the reds around'.
After bringing in just Patrick Dorgu in January, Ineos have the simple job of backing the manager. It's difficult see how United wouldn't be better by giving Amorim the tools to succeed.
Amorim clearly isn't getting ahead of himself with the love from supporters. His focus is on turning United's fortunes around long-term and to do that, he must be backed in the transfer window.
