Eight players Chelsea must sell after major Fabrizio Romano update,£50m flop has to be first to go - opinion

There could be a huge clear-out at Chelsea this summer, with the Blues having a couple of reasons to sanction sales in the next transfer window.

Chelsea currently have a lot of players on their books, while they will also need to bring in some money if they want to spend without breaching PSR.

It means there are likely to be a lot of exits at Stamford Bridge when the market opens again. In fact, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, there could be up to eight permanent departures at Chelsea in the summer.

With that in mind, The Chelsea Chronicle has made a list of eight players the club should sell in the next window.

Chelsea signed Raheem Sterling from Manchester City for £50m back in 2022. Simply put, his move to west London has not worked out.

So dissatisfied with his performances, the Blues were even willing to let him join London rivals Arsenal on loan last summer. Has to be the first to go on his ridiculous wages.

Ben Chilwell

Ben Chilwell is another high earner who is currently on loan at another club. Chilwell is at Crystal Palace until the end of the season and would surely love another chance at Chelsea.

The left-back won the Champions League there, but with Enzo Maresca not keen on him, Chelsea need to find him a new permanent home.

Again, an addition who was not cheap and is not currently part of Maresca’s squad, Chelsea have to find a buyer for Joao Felix if they can.

Felix is a technical player with a lot of quality, but he was never really needed at the Bridge. AC Milan do not want to buy Felix, so that is not great news for Chelsea.

Axel Disasi

Unlike Felix, there is likely to be a market for Axel Disasi. His loan spell at Aston Villa is going to plan, so the the Villans may decide that they want to keep him.

It is also being reported that Disasi is attracting interest from other Premier League sides. Surplus to requirements at Chelsea, the club should take advantage of the interest being shown in the Frenchman and offload him permanently at the end of the season.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall

In contrast to the above names, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is still part of Maresca’s first team. The midfielder is not a bad player at all and showed that last week with a very good goal in the Conference League against Copenhagen.

However, Dewsbury-Hall will want to play more next season and because he is a decent player at this level, Chelsea should not find it hard to flog him off to another English side this summer. A permanent transfer makes sense for both parties.

Trevoh Chalobah

Trevoh Chalobah is not a bad footballer either, but Chelsea want to sign a new central defender, so someone probably needs to be sacrificed.

Chalobah’s former teammate at Crystal Palace Marc Guehi is on Chelsea’s list so could be the centre-back that arrives.

Kepa Arrizabalaga has done well at Bournemouth this season, perhaps well enough to earn another chance at Chelsea.

The club are in possession of way too many goalkeepers, though, so one or two have to go.

Robert Sanchez

Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper Robert Sanchez should be one shot-stopper who is sold this summer, but that seems unlikely to happen, given Maresca’s fixation on him.

At this stage, the 27-year-old has had enough chances between the sticks. Sanchez nor any of the above names should be safe.
