Jamie Reuben picks out just three Newcastle United stars who have earned his 'respect', he…

Newcastle United co-owner Jamie Reuben has credited three players for their efforts over the years.

The Magpies won the Carabao Cup on Sunday night after a truly remarkable performance against a Liverpool side that have looked unstoppable at times this season.

Thankfully, Newcastle United caught them at exactly the right time, with Eddie Howe’s side coming off the back of a win and Liverpool still reeling from their gruelling Champions League defeat a few days prior.

Reds boss Arne Slot praised Dan Burn for his efforts throughout the game. His first-half goal and spectacular defensive work earned him the Player of the Match award.

Howe broke a 17-year record by winning the cup for Newcastle, becoming the first English manager to win a domestic trophy since Harry Redknapp lifted the FA Cup in 2008. The Toon boss was visibly emotional at the final whistle after getting Newcastle’s gameplan spot on to keep Liverpool at bay for the majority of the game.

Now, Newcastle co-owner Jamie Reuben has taken to social media to lump even more praise onto three players.

Jamie Reuben’s message to Newcastle ‘titans’

Reuben was at Wembley Stadium for the Carabao Cup final alongside the likes of chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan and CEO Darren Eales.

It was also revealed that Reuben invited Amanda Staveley to Wembley on behalf of the club, showing how much they still cared for her, despite a bitter end to her time at the club.

Reuben thanked the Newcastle fans before the game – he will have been even more impressed with them after their loud vocals on the big stage.

Newcastle defender Jamaal Lascelles has missed the whole season with an ACL injury and may not even make it back before the end of the campaign. However, Bruno Guimaraes and Kieran Trippier still lifted the trophy with Lascelles, paying tribute to his time as captain.

The clip was shared by Reuben, who also wrote: “The three captains under our ownership are titans of the club, unbelievable characters who have and continue to do so much for the club on and off the field, for this they have not only my respect but my admiration, (welcome back big man).”

Carabao Cup win is only the beginning for Newcastle

Fans were understandably emotional after Newcastle won their first domestic trophy in 70 years. Guimaraes emotional interview immediately after the game was exactly how many fans were feeling afterwards.

You wouldn’t be told off for thinking Newcastle’s desire for trophies ends there though, this is only the beginning.

Newcastle revealed a play for 2030 where they aim to win more trophies and build a new stadium.

Even Al-Rumayyan promised Newcastle fans more trophies while celebrating on the pitch with the players. Howe has cemented his legacy at Newcastle thanks to the trophy win. He could become one of the club’s biggest-ever icons if he can better what he achieved on Sunday.
