Moises Caicedo has admitted Chelsea's target this season is to qualify for the Champions League.
Despite losing 1-0 to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, the Blues are currently fourth in the Premier League. With it looking likely the top five in the English top flight will qualify for the Champions League next season, Enzo Maresca's side are in a decent enough position.
Chelsea have fixtures against Liverpool, Newcastle and Manchester United to come before the season ends, though, so do need to ensure they get points on the board. Manchester City in fifth are one point below the west Londoners, while Newcastle and Brighton in sixth and seventh are just two points below.
Speaking to the official Chelsea website, Caicedo said: "For sure we want to play in the Champions League next season and things are close, but we are focused on ourselves because that’s the most important thing. We are working hard to try and win every game and get there to play in the Champions League – that’s the target."
Caicedo has been one of Chelsea's better players this campaign, with the 23-year-old playing 2,871 minutes over 34 games in all competitions. The former Brighton man played the whole match against Arsenal on Sunday and felt Chelsea were unfortunate not to come away with at least a point.
"It was a tough game," Caicedo said. "The first 20 minutes they were better, and it’s frustrating because I felt we dominated the game after that. We were better than them, but we needed to score goals to win the game. Every game is a fight for me. It doesn’t matter if it’s a derby.
"We showed good character and that’s for sure why we were good. [The injured players] are very important for us, they help us a lot with scoring goals. Now they are out but we have more players. We have Neto playing as a striker, we have Enzo, and everyone is working hard to win the games."
