Chelsea have vowed to track down vile online trolls who targeted Wesley Fofana with racial slurs.
The France defender played 86 minutes as Enzo Maresca's men lost 1-0 to Mikel Arteta's Arsenal in the Premier League on March 16, but found himself facing disgusting online comments following a challenge on Declan Rice that earned him a booking.
And now Stamford Bridge chiefs have pledged to crack down on the online abuse their players are facing, saying: "Chelsea Football Club is appalled and disgusted by the recent rise in online racial abuse towards our players.
"The abuse Wes Fofana has been subjected to following yesterday’s fixture is abhorrent and will not be tolerated. Wes and all our players have our full support.
"We will work with the relevant authorities in identifying the perpetrators and take the strongest possible action."
Fofana has since made his Instagram account private, but had shared screenshots where he was sent monkey emojis and racially offensive messages.
It comes just a fortnight after ex Rangers defender Calvin Bassey found himself inundated with racist messages after scoring for Fulham as they knocked Manchester United out of the FA Cup.
The defender also took to social media after the game to share some of the disgusting messages he had been sent after the game - which included vile racist and homophobic slurs.
