Microsoft has confirmed a bug with the latest Windows 11 update that's accidentally causing the Copilot app to get uninstalled and unpinned from the taskbar on some devices. The issue started after the Patch Tuesday updates were released on March 11, 2025.

The company is working on fixing this issue. In the meantime, affected users can reinstall the Copilot app from the Microsoft Store and manually pin it back to the taskbar. This does not affect the Microsoft 365 Copilot app, as reported by The Verge.

Despite this setback, a new native version of Copilot for Windows is being rolled out, replacing the previous web app version. The new app has an improved user interface and a press-to-talk hotkey, similar to Cortana's functionality in Windows 10.

Microsoft plans to unveil additional Copilot updates at its 50th anniversary event on April 4, 2025. Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman is scheduled to announce new Copilot features at the upcoming event. There are also rumors that Microsoft is developing its own in-house AI reasoning models to compete with OpenAI.

Some users (or many?) who aren't fans of Copilot might actually be happy about its accidental removal.
