Chelsea players, coaches and directors have contacted Wesley Fofana personally to offer their support to the defender after he was subjected to racial abuse following Sunday's loss at Arsenal.
The Premier League club say in a statement that they are 'appalled and disgusted' in the online targeting of their stars, with the 24-year-old Frenchman the latest to receive messages on social media.
Chelsea are contacting Instagram over the abuse, and that includes asking them to fast-track the removal of the sick messages, and said in a statement: 'Chelsea Football Club is appalled and disgusted by the recent rise in online racial abuse towards our players.
'The abuse Wes Fofana has been subjected to following yesterday's fixture is abhorrent and will not be tolerated.
'Wes and all our players have our full support. We will work with the relevant authorities in identifying the perpetrators and take the strongest possible action.'
Chelsea are among the clubs working with social media companies to try to eradicate such abuse.
