Amanda Nildén struggled as Tottenham Women’s poor run of form continued on Sunday.
After their frustrating yet encouraging 2-1 Barclays Women’s Super League defeat against Manchester City Women on Sunday 2 March, Robert Vilahamn and his players would have been keen to kick on.
However, instead, they were beaten 1-0 by Brighton Women at Brisbane Road to make it four consecutive defeats in the WSL and five in all competitions.
Nildén has shone previously for Spurs this season. However, playing in a more attacking role on Sunday, the 26-year-old struggled to perform.

After receiving a Kit Graham injury boost during the two-week break, Vilahamn would have no doubt been in a good mood and keen to turn Spurs’ poor form around against the Seagulls.

However, his side once again failed to deliver, which leaves the North London outfit 7th in the WSL.

Tottenham are pushing for a top-five finish in the WSL
Fran Kirby’s 42nd-minute strike was enough to seal all the points for the visitors, and Eleanor Heeps will no doubt feel she deserves another chance between the sticks after Lize Kop’s poor record as of late.
However, it was Nildén who really struggled against Brighton. The Swede, who often plays in defence, was deployed further forward on this occasion but struggled to adapt.
As per Sofascore, Nildén completed just 78 per cent of her passes, with none of those key, and failed to provide an accurate cross into the box from three attempts.
In addition, she succeeded with zero per cent of her attempted dribbles and even struggled with the defensive side of her game, winning just one of her six ground duels and two of her five aerial duels while also being dribbled past once. Therefore, it is difficult to see Vilahamn playing Nildén in this role again.
Vilaham needs to find a solution at Tottenham
Spurs’ struggles against the likes of Manchester United Women, Arsenal Women and City in the past few weeks are understandable.
However, Vilahamn would have been targeting three points at home against a Brighton side closer to Tottenham in the table. Therefore, the fact that Spurs lost without finding the back of the net will no doubt be a disappointment for the 42-year-old.
And he will be desperate to find a solution and put things right before Spurs travel to West Ham Women in the WSL on Sunday 23 March.
