New links from Germany between Liverpool and Jeremie Frimpong have been reignited this week.

Liverpool are preparing for what promises to be their most active transfer window in years, with the club expected to overhaul key positions including right-back, left-back, and attack.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future hanging in the balance and several other areas requiring reinforcement, sporting director Richard Hughes is laying the groundwork for a transformative summer at Anfield.

Arne Slot confirmed that the club would do business this summer, saying to the BBC back in January:

“I know people sometimes question us because they haven’t seen us doing a lot in the transfer market in the summer and now in the winter as well. There’s a reason for that – because we’re happy with the squad.”

“But I do know we’re definitely working on strengthening in the summer.”

While Liverpool’s immediate concern appears to be the left-back position, the right side of defense could use planning for the future.

Andy Robertson turned 30 earlier this year, and though he still has plenty to offer, the club has begun exploring potential long-term successors with David Ornstein recently confirming that Milos Kerkez has a good chance of signing for Liverpool in the summer.

And on the other flank, it looks like Liverpool are exploring options amid the Trent Alexander-Arnold situation.

German outlet BILD has now sensationally claimed that Arne Slot and Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong have been in contact for the whole of the 2024/25 campaign.

Frimpong established himself as one of Europe’s most exciting right-backs during Leverkusen’s historic 2023/24 campaign, playing a pivotal role as they secured the Bundesliga title without losing a single match and also lifted the DFB-Pokal.

The 23-year-old has been in exceptional form since joining Leverkusen, contributing to 33 goals since last season with 15 goals and 18 assists across all competitions.

Christian Falk of BILD reports:

“If the ‘Reds’ have to let right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold leave on a free transfer in the summer (very likely in the direction of the club), the club is bare in the position. Can Jeremie Frimpong fill this gap?”

It is then revealed that Frimpong and Slot have been in talks with one another this season:

“Coach Slot and Frimpong are both Dutch and communicate regularly with each other. The coach wanted the lightning-fast defender at the beginning of the season.”

“Frimpong’s release clause of 40 million euros should not present Liverpool with unfeasible tasks either – IF money is flushed into the club’s coffers in the summer.”

As the season progresses, Liverpool fans can expect transfer reports to intensify with the way things are going aheadof the 2025/26 campaign.
