Rob Lee reacts as Dan Burn breaks his 25-year Wembley record in Newcastle United win

Rob Lee has taken to social media after Newcastle United’s historic Carabao Cup win on Sunday.

The Magpies didn’t put a foot wrong throughout the game, with every Newcastle United player clearly up for the occasion.

Dan Burn became a Newcastle legend by scoring the opener in the Carabao Cup final, the 32-year-old rounded off a sensational week for himself by having received his first England call-up for the upcoming international games.

Alexander Isak won his battle with Virgil van Dijk, it initially looked as if the Swede was going to struggle against the Dutch defender but he still managed to find a way to score, ensuring a late comeback effort from Liverpool was a mere consolation.

Head coach Eddie Howe became the first manager since Joe Harvey in 1969 to lift a trophy for the Magpies, showing just how brutal a wait it has been for some fans. Many former players and fans have been taking to social media to celebrate the occasion. Alan Shearer was caught on the television feed throughout the game taking in the atmosphere alongside the likes of Ant and Dec as well as former Newcastle owner Amanda Staveley.

Now, Newcastle legend Rob Lee has shared his thoughts about the win and Burn’s performance on social media.

Burn repeated history by scoring a sensational header in the first half, a reward for the fine work the Magpies had put in before then.

Newcastle didn’t need any luck given how well they played, but that didn’t stop Bruno Guimaraes from rubbing Lee’s feet for good fortune before the final.

Speaking on X after the win, Lee said: “What a team performance!!! What a b—– great day!! Worth the 70-year wait.”

Lee thought Guimaraes would score, but he will still be pleased with the fact that he is no longer the last Toon star to score at Wembley and that it was a local star who broke the unwanted streak.

If you could give Player of the Match to every Newcastle player, then you would. Everyone was sensational on that pitch on Sunday, and they thoroughly deserved to be the team lifting the trophy at the end.

The win also means that Newcastle have qualified for European football next season and are the first English team to do so this season.
