Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings had a mild Grade 1 knee injury back in February, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert explained the possibility of the 32-year-old suffering a re-injury as he has played the last few games.

The centre-back started both legs against Club Brugge and played the full 90 minutes in Belgium.

Unai Emery has likely been given the green signal over Tyrone Mings’ minutes for Aston Villa

Unai Emery will undoubtedly be getting constant updates from the club physios over the fitness of his players.

In case there was any risk of re-injury, the Spaniard will be told to monitor the minutes of that player and not play him beyond the suggested amount.

However, he is not expected to have to ration Mings’ minutes as he appears to have recovered from his knee injury.

Speaking about this situation, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, told Villa News: “He was out with a minor Grade 1 knee injury back in February.

“However, since then he’s started three games and played the full 90 minutes twice so he’s now got a minimal risk of re-injury.

“*I do not see any reason why Unai Emery will be told to be careful with his minutes.*“

Champions League progress hinges on the fitness of Villa players including Mings

Mings’ fitness, as explained above by Dr Brar, is vital for Villa despite his age of 32 because he brings experience, leadership and defensive stability that remain unmatched in Emery’s squad.

His commanding presence at centre-back, honed through years in the Premier League, provides a calming influence, especially in high-stakes matches like those in the Champions League or against top-six rivals and progress in Europe may hinge on his availability as he’s proven to be a rock at the back.

While younger defenders like Pau Torres offer flair, Mings’ physicality and aerial dominance, evidenced by his 6’5” frame, bolster Villa’s resilience against set-pieces and direct attacks.

His recovery from a 2023 ACL injury underlines his determination and at 32, he’s still in his prime for a centre-back, offering a seasoned counterbalance to Villa’s youthful ambition as they chase sustained success.
