When healthy, the Las Vegas Raiders had one of the better slot cornerbacks in the NFL across the last four seasons in Nate Hobbs. He decided to sign a four-year contract with the Green Bay Packers in free agency so the Raiders will need to address the position.
If they can't find a high-end slot cornerback before the season, they'll at the very least have one veteran option on the roster. According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Raiders have signed cornerback Darnay Holmes to a one-year contract.
Notably, Holmes was with the Raiders last season and worked with defensive coordinator Patrick Graham when they were both with the New York Giants.
Holmes can also play outside but he took the majority of his snaps in the slot. He took 236 snaps in the slot last season compared to just 12 outside, per Pro Football Focus.
The Raiders secondary will look a bit different next season with the losses of Hobbs, Tre'von Moehrig and Marcus Epps but the cornerback room will look very similar. The team appears set at safety so they could be aggressive in adding a cornerback or two in the draft.
That said, much of the Raiders free agent moves have been on the defensive side of the ball so they could prefer to use the draft to attack the offense.
