Aston Villa had a break from Premier League football this past weekend

Aston Villa face an FA Cup quarter-final clash against Preston North End of the Championship next Sunday as they look to keep their momentum. A place at Wembley in the semi-final awaits the winner of that tie.

Unai Emery’s side are sat in 8th place in the Premier League table as they look to get into the top four again like last year. They also remain in the Champions League and will lock horns with PSG next.

They have the chance to bolster their ranks this summer when the new transfer window opens. The Midlands outfit also have the opportunity to let some players head out the exit door if they wish to.

Aston Villa eye surprise move for Isco

Aston Villa are interested in a move for Real Betis playmaker Isco later this year, according to a report by Spanish news outlet Fichajes. The 32-year-old, who is a former Spain international, is being linked with a switch to Villa Park ahead of the next campaign.

They could see him as someone to add more competition and depth to their attacking options. If they managed to get him, he would inject more quality and experience into their squad.

Isco played for Valencia and Malaga as a youngster before Real Madrid snapped him up in 2013. He went on to spend around nine years with the La Liga giants and fired 53 goals in 353 games in all competitions.

He then cut ties with Carlo Ancelotti’s side a couple of years ago and initially signed for Sevilla. Betis acquired in July 2023 and he has since become a key player for them, finding the net on 18 occasions in 55 outings.

Aston Villa update following Champions League win

Aston Villa beat Club Brugge 3-0 in the second leg of their Champions League clash. That result should boost their confidence as they look to do the same to PSG.

Speaking after their latest victory, Emery said: “I’m very proud of our supporters, our work, the players, the club, the workers because we’re increasing our demand. In increasing our demand we have to get the objective we are facing in the high level we have to get. This season, playing in the Champions League was a very good opportunity when we started and we’re really focusing a lot in the Champions League about how we can be a protagonist.

“Today we competed against one team and performed very well. I’m very happy with how we are in the way and we’re going to play a quarter-final against PSG. This is two matches more for our supporters to be with us, to share with us their emotions and we’re going to try to prepare as best as possible to continue like we are doing.”

He added: “In the second half we changed completely and we were speaking at half-time about how we could change how the match was going. We did and the players took responsibility to get our plan strongly to dominate like we did in the second half.”
