‘Terrible, Terrible, Terrible!’ CNN’s Harry Enten Sounds the Alarm for Dems About Record-Low New Poll Numbers

CNN data guru Harry Enten quoted NBA legend Charles Barkley Monday while breaking down a pair of polls released a day earlier that showed Democrats in deep trouble with the electorate.

Enten portrayed the polls as a five-alarm fire for a party that is still trying to find its footing after losing the White House and Senate and failing to take the House last November during a discussion with network host John Berman.

A CNN/SSRS survey released Sunday found only 29% of those polled viewedDemocrats in a favorable light. Fifty-four percent said they viewed the Democratic Party unfavorably.

A Separate poll also released on Sunday by NBC News showed only 27% of registered voters view Democrats favorably, and a mere 7% view Democrats “very” positively. Fifty-five percent viewed Democrats in an unfavorable light.

Both polls showed Democrats with record-low approval numbers dating back more than three decades – when CNN and NBC both began tracking party approval ratings. Enten said of the twin surveys.

“Why why are Democrats full of despair?” Enten said. “Terrible, terrible, terrible to quote the great Charles Barkley.”

After making note of the information in the polls above, Enten said, “All I can say is, I’m a big fan of the oldies, so I’m going to quote Chubby Checker: “How low can you go?” He continued:

You think these numbers are low? How about this one? Holy Toledo. Voters’ views of the Democrats in Congress among all voters disapproved, 68%. And look at the approved number, just 21%, even lower than the Democratic Party at large. This is the lowest on record for Democrats, according to Quinnipiac University polling. You think these numbers are bad?

Let’s go to this side of the screen. Well, look how Democratic voters feel. Get this, the plurality of Democratic voters disapprove of Democrats in Congress at 49%, and just 40% approve. Horrible, horrible, horrible. Oh my goodness gracious, you just can’t get worse than these numbers.

Berman noted the data showed that much of what was driving Democrats’ poor numbers was their own voters disapproving of them in the House and Senate.

Enten noted that 77% of Democratic voters polled felt their party was not doing enough to oppose President Donald Trump.

Sixty-five percent of them said they would be happy to see their elected officials fail as long as they stayed true to their principles and nothing was accomplished.
