Liverpool star faces uncertain future at Anfield

The Premier League looks to be the only trophy that Liverpool will win this season following their 2-1 defeat against Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.

At the start of the year Arne Slot’s side had been on course to complete a remarkable quadruple, but the Reds have since been dumped out of both the FA Cup and Champions League; at the hands of Plymouth Argyle and Paris Saint-Germain respectively.

Slot will have viewed Sunday’s final at Wembley as the perfect opportunity to get his first silverware in England, but goals from Dan Burn and Alexander Isak earned the Magpies a memorable victory.

Federico Chiesa’s late goal proved only to be a consolation, and Liverpool will therefore focus solely on the Premier League.

This summer could be a busy one at Anfield with several players in the final few months of their respective contracts, but now it appears that another star is facing an uncertain future on Merseyside.

According to GiveMeSport, the future of winger Luis Diaz is firmly on the radar of those in charge of the club as they plan ahead for the summer.

Diaz is under contract until the summer of 2027

The Colombian winger is under contract with Liverpool until the end of the 2026/27 campaign, but the report claims that recent speculation surrounding the player’s future has irritated staff at the club, some of whom feel it has been unwelcome and distracting.

Diaz, 28, joined Liverpool from Portuguese side Porto in 2022 and has since played 140 times for the club, scoring 37 goals and registering 18 assists.

Barcelona sporting director Deco is said to be an admirer of the winger, and the report suggests that there is a growing feeling that the player himself would be open to a new opportunity if one arose.

Current forwards Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez could leave Liverpool during the upcoming summer transfer window, which could then leave Slot’s squad short of attacking options.
