Potter must be brave this summer and sell England int'l, otherwise it will be obvious he's a…

West Ham United head coach Graham Potter has some big decisions to make in the summer.

Graham Potter is planning a big squad revamp at West Ham in the summer transfer window.

And boy do the Hammers need that.

We have the oldest squad in the Premier League at the moment, and Potter needs to strengthen in pretty much every single department at the London Stadium.

In fairness to Potter, he has already made some small improvements at West Ham, especially defensively.

David Moyes suggested on Saturday that he’s been hugely impressed at how hard the Hammers are to break down now.

However, in spite of that, Potter still has to make some big calls this summer if he is to prove that he’s really the man we need to take us forward.

Is Graham Potter ruthless enough, or is he just a yes man

Potter has somewhat of a reputation in the game of being too nice.

In fact, that’s apparently exactly why he was sacked from Chelsea (The Times).

It does worry me that we never see the 49-year-old angry with his players. Nor do we see him in referees’ faces demanding answers for poor decisions.

I kind of get the impression that he could be a bit of an easy touch.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the football that he implements, and when he beds in his ideas at West Ham, I have no doubts that we’ll play some exceptional stuff.

However, he needs to hold his players more accountable as far as I’m concerned.

The best and quickest way for him to send a really bold message this summer will be to sell someone who is a really popular figure at the London Stadium.

Graham Potter has to sell James Ward-Prowse

Now, it’s not like James Ward-Prowse is a bad player.

He’s actually a very solid operator. However, the 30-year-old isn’t what the Hammers need in central midfield right now at all.

Graham Potter has raved about James Ward-Prowse’s performances for West Ham recently, and that is what worries me.

The Hammers are crying out for some real pace and power in the middle of the park. We desperately need some natural athleticism and someone with genuine ball-carrying ability.

The former Southampton midfielder doesn’t possess those qualities in the slightest.

Graham Potter has to get ruthless with James Ward-Prowse this summer, and sell him as soon as the transfer window opens.
