Report: Liverpool to let starter join Real Madrid for €60million

Liverpool’s season, which looked destined for glory just days ago, has taken a sudden downturn.

After crashing out of the UEFA Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain, the Reds suffered another setback with a painful Carabao Cup final defeat to Newcastle United.

While they remain favourites to lift the Premier League title, the club is now bracing for a crucial summer transfer window, with key players facing uncertain futures.

With Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold all out of contract at the end of the season and no renewal agreements in place, Liverpool could face a major squad overhaul.

According to Defensa Central, Real Madrid are keen to sign Konaté, viewing him as a key addition to their defensive ranks.

Liverpool, however, have reportedly made it clear that they will only entertain offers if Los Blancos meet their valuation of €60 million (£50.6m).

The 25-year-old has been a vital part of Liverpool’s backline, forming a formidable partnership with Van Dijk. His raw power, aerial dominance, and exceptional recovery speed make him one of the most complete centre-backs in Europe.

Despite ongoing discussions regarding a contract renewal, there has been no significant progress, leaving the door open for a potential exit in 2026.

Would Liverpool really sell Konaté?

While Konaté is a crucial figure in Liverpool’s high-intensity defensive system, the club may have to make tough decisions this summer.

If van Dijk does not renew his contract and leaves for free, Liverpool might be reluctant to part ways with Konaté in the same window. However, if the Dutch captain stays, the Reds could see an opportunity to cash in on the Frenchman and reinvest in their defensive line.

Liverpool are already linked with several centre-back targets, including Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi and Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen, suggesting that preparations for a potential defensive reshuffle are already underway.

A defining summer ahead for Liverpool

With uncertainty surrounding several key players, this summer could be one of the most transformative in Liverpool’s recent history.

Whether Konaté stays or departs will depend on Real Madrid’s willingness to meet Liverpool’s demands – but if the Frenchman does leave, the Reds must ensure they have a solid defensive succession plan in place.
