How Mikel Arteta could inadvertently fund Liverpool's new strike line - opinion

Arsenal want Jota AND Nunez

In what could be a dream move, it appears that ARSENAL are now ready to relieve Liverpool of their striking burden and potentially free up the cash for Isak or another forward.

We previously reported that the Gunners were among the teams who could find a home for Jota should Liverpool decide to cash in.

The Portugal international, 28, is under contract until 2027 at Anfield and the club could reasonably bank around £40m for his services.

And now it’s been revealed that Mikel Arteta is a big fan of Darwin Nunez and believes the Uruguayan could augment his current striking options. That’s according to a new report in Fichajes, which claims the Spaniard sees the 25-year-old as a useful rotation option.

Liverpool were close to selling Nunez in the winter transfer window but pulled out of a Saudi Pro League transfer owing to a lack of viable alternatives.

However, should any interested party match the club’s valuation of around £75m then Nunez could well be on his way.

So if Liverpool bank £40m from Arsenal for Jota and another £75m for Nunez then it would leave them just £35m short of Newcastle’s Isak asking price.

That would go a long way towards securing the Swede’s signature and the deal would be made all the sweeter because Arsenal will have paid most of it.
