YEREVAN — The EU monitoring mission reported no unusual activity on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border between March 16-17. This was stated in a post on the mission’s official X microblog.
“The EU monitoring mission deployed patrols to various locations along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border on March 16-17. The situation remains calm and stable, with no unusual activity observed,” the statement read.
With this announcement, the EU monitoring mission refuted claims by Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry that Armenian Armed Forces units had opened fire on Azerbaijani positions.
On March 16, Armenia’s Defense Ministry also denied three separate statements issued by Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry throughout the day, alleging that Armenian Armed Forces had fired at Azerbaijani positions in the southeastern border area.
The Armenian Defense Ministry reiterated the Armenian Prime Minister’s office’s proposal to establish a joint Armenia-Azerbaijan mechanism for investigating ceasefire violations and related reports. However, Azerbaijan has yet to respond to this initiative.
