Former Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford gave a sheepish and yet entirely expected response to Newcastle United's Carabao Cup triumph on Sunday night.

The die-hard Black Cat revealed he watched the game between the Magpies and Liverpool, as Eddie Howe's side ran out 2-1 winners at Wembley Stadium. Goals from Pickford's new international teammate Dan Burn and Alexander Isak ensured the trophy would head to Tyneside rather than Merseyside despite a late consolation goal from Federico Chiesa.

Pickford who, of course, plays for Everton had no skin in the game but as a Sunderland fan would have likely been hoping for a Liverpool win, despite being the arch-rivals of the Toffees - though he doesn't actually go into detail about the result.

As part of England's welcome to their international camp for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia, the players had to ask a question for the next Lion through the door.

Fellow goalkeeper Dean Henderson is asked what he watched on the way in to St. George's Park, to which he replies that he was sociable and spoke with the driver, before telling a member of England's social media team to ask what his teammate got up to last night.

Former Black Cats shot stopper Pickford is the next man through the door and gives a typically sheepish response to the question.

"Eh?" he responds with a wry smile on his face as the question is repeated. "Watched the game," he reluctantly responds.

Pickford will be joined on international duty by fellow Mackem Jordan Henderson after his call-up to Thomas Tuchel's England squad, while Newcastle trio Dan Burn, Anthony Gordon and Tino Livramento were also named in the Three Lions' World Cup qualifiers squad to face Latvia and Albania.

A clip has also surfaced on social media of Burn watching the opening goal from the Carabao Cup Final win alongside Henderson, before the Newcastle defender jokes that he hasn't just turned up to watch the replay.
