Preview: San Antonio Spurs at Los Angeles Lakers – Game #67

In a game that was postponed due to the Los Angeles wildfires, the San Antonio Spurs will take on the Los Angeles Lakers. The Spurs enter the affair with a record of 28-38, while the Lakers sport a record of 41-25.

San Antonio has actually won two of their previous three games. In their latest victory, Devin Vassell led the way with 22 points versus the New Orleans Pelicans. Harrison Barnes and Keldon Johnson both chipped in 19 points in a balanced attack.

The Lakers have been streaky lately. After winning eight straight contests, L.A. followed that up with four consecutive losses. Last night, the Lakers got back on the winning track with a 107-96 victory over the Phoenix Suns. Luka Doncic led the way for Los Angeles with 33 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists.

San Antonio Spurs Injury Update

The two big names on the injury list for the Spurs are obviously Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox. Both will miss the rest of the season. Wembanyama is dealing with a blood clot in his shoulder, while Fox is having surgery to address tendon damage to his pinkie.

Charles Bassey will miss another game with a knee injury. Jordan McLaughlin, a little used point guard who was acquired in the trade for Fox, is questionable against the Lakers due to achilles soreness.

Los Angeles Lakers Injury Update

Tonight, the Lakers will be without LeBron James. The 40-year-old superstar is dealing with a groin injury that is expected to force him to miss at least another week.

Rui Hachimura is out with a knee injury but he is expected to be back soon.

Luka Doncic is listed as probable for tonight’s game against the Spurs. He’s dealing with an ankle injury. Dorian Finney-Smith, who is also dealing with an ankle injury, joins Doncic as being listed on the injured list as probable to play tonight.

San Antonio Spurs Starting Lineup

Expect interim head coach Mitch Johnson to keep starting the same five players: Stephon Castle and Chris Paul at guard, Devin Vassell and Harrison Barnes at forward, and Bismack Biyombo at center.

Off the bench, expect Jeremy Sochan, Keldon Johnson and Julian Champagnie to be the first three reserves to see action.

The Lakers are favored by 9.5 points and the over/under is 229.5 points. The smart money is on the Lakers winning by 10 or more points. Despite the win, the Spurs didn’t play that well against the Pelicans. The Lakers, on the other hand, really need wins to stay afloat in the Western Conference standings.
