76ers Issue Brutal Paul George Injury Announcement

The 2024-25 campaign has not gone the Philadelphia 76ers way, and the player who personifies their struggles the most is Paul George. It appears as if George's season is over now, as the 76ers issued a crushing injury announcement regarding their marquee free agent signing from last offseason.

George landed a four-year, $211 million contract from Philadelphia last offseason, with the hope being that he could help Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey elevate the team into title contention status. That never panned out, as injuries and poor play made George a shell of himself in his first season with his new squad.

"I haven't been the healthiest, so it's just been putting a ton of work towards getting my body as healthy as possible, and to keep focus of obviously being here and trying to turn things around here and the full focus is trying to get this team together," George said recently when speaking about his injury-plagued campaign.

The 76ers already lost their superstar center Embiid to a season-ending knee injury, and with a 23-44 record, it seems unlikely they could even find their way into the NBA's play-in tournament. As a result, the team announced on Monday afternoon that they are shutting George down for the rest of the season.

"Following consultations with specialists, as part of his treatment plan, Paul George has received injections in both his left adductor muscle and left knee," the 76ers said in a statement posted on X. "Following the procedure, George is medically unable to play and will be out for at least six weeks. Further updates on his recovery will be provided as appropriate."

With less than a month to go in the season, and the playoffs no longer within the team's reach, George's first season in Philadelphia has come to an end. In 41 games, he averaged 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game while shooting 43% from the field.
