Ian Rapoport Suggests Cowboys Could Make Big QB Move in 2025 NFL Draft

Dak Prescott is entrenched as the starting quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys.

Before the start of the 2024 season, the Cowboys signed Prescott to a four-year, $240 million deal. Although Dallas has made a long-term commitment to Prescott, it should still start considering the future.

Prescott turns 32 on July 29 and has battled multiple injuries over the past three seasons. In 2022, he missed five games with a fractured thumb on his throwing hand. In 2024, he played in eight games before suffering a season-ending hamstring tear.

Former Cowboys backup QB Cooper Rush - who had a 9-5 starting record in seven seasons with Dallas - signed a two-year, $12.2 million deal with the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.

Combine Rush's departure with potential concerns about Prescott's durability, and it would make sense for the Cowboys to take a QB in the 2025 NFL draft.

On a Monday episode of "The Insiders," NFL Media's Ian Rapoport said he doesn't expect the Cowboys to take a QB with pick No. 12 in the first round but suggested they could select one in the second or third round.

"What if it's someone like Quinn Ewers in the second round?" Rapoport said. "A quarterback who's really talented, who they know well. He might not have to play for a couple of years, but in three years might be someone who's talented enough to be the starting QB."

In three seasons at Texas, Ewers led the Longhorns to two College Football Playoff appearances and threw 68 touchdown passes, the third most in school history.

Whether the franchise targets Ewers or not, it plans to draft a quarterback. In a February interview with The Dallas Morning News' David Moore, Cowboys chief operating officer and co-owner Stephen Jones said, "I think one of our goals is to get a young quarterback in the draft."
