On March 17, 2025, commencing at 12:25 pm, for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from the Hon. John Peter Ricketts, United States Senate. The overview of the courtesy call is as follows.
At the outset, Minister Iwaya welcomed Senator Ricketts on his visit to Japan. Minister Iwaya stated his desire to elevate the Japan-U.S Alliance to new heights and cooperate closely to materialize a Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) based on the rule of law.
Both shared the view of the importance to further strengthen the deterrence and response capabilities of Japan-U.S. Alliance, as well as Japan-U.S. economic relations. In addition, Minister Iwaya stated that, in the area of economy, it is important to expand trade and investment in a mutually beneficial manner for both Japan and the United States.
Both sides also exchanged views on global issues, including the situation in the Indo-Pacific region.
