On March 12, Ambassador Yan Jiarong delivered a speech  at an event celebrating the preservation of the Bahamian cultural heritage and International Women's Day at the Clifton Heritage National Park. The event was attended by the Most Hon. Governor General Dame Cynthia Pratt, Mrs. Anne Marie Davis, Wife of the Hon. Prime Minister, the Hon. Minister of Education and Technical and Vocational Training Ms. Glenys Hanna Martin, and Assistant Commissioner of Police Ms. Janet McKenzie, who are outstanding and prominent representatives of Bahamian women.

Ambassador Yan said the Fourth World Conference on Women was held in Beijing in 1995. The Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action adopted at the Conference became a milestone in the global pursuit of gender equality and women's empowerment. Over the past three decades, China has acted in the spirit of the 1995 Conference, which is a vivid reflection of building a community with a shared future for mankind, as proposed by President Xi Jinping, providing a Chinese Approach to global governance in women's development. China will convene a Global Leaders' Meeting on Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment in Beijing in the latter half of this year,  which will surely promote healthy growth and cooperation in global women's affairs.
