Chinese Ambassador to ASEAN Hou Yanqi Attends the First EAS Group Meeting 2025

On March 13, 2025, Ambassador Hou Yanqi attended the First Meeting of the Group of the East Asia Summit (EAS) Participating Countries’ Ambassadors to ASEAN in Jakarta 2025.

Ambassador Hou stated that the annual two sessions of China just concluded successfully a few days ago. The target of China’s GDP growth in 2025 was set to be around 5%. China will further accelerate high-quality development, expand high-standard opening-up, actively participate in global governance, bringing more stability to the turbulent world.

Ambassador Hou noted that this year marks the 20th anniversary of EAS. All parties should maintain its original aspiration, uphold multilateralism to promote open and inclusive development, advance economic integration to achieve mutually beneficial and win-win development, strengthen dialogue and cooperation to maintain peaceful and stable development environment.

Ambassador Hou elaborated on China’s principled position regarding issues such as the South China Sea and refuted the smear and accusations from individual country.

The meeting discussed institutional building of EAS and exchanged views on development cooperation.
