'Not good enough': Ian Wright highlights‘strange’ Robert Sanchez moment during Chelsea’s loss to Arsenal

Chelsea fans were already not confident in the goalkeeper that was chosen to take on Arsenal in their last Premier League game.

After Filip Jorgensen seemingly didn’t take his chance as the number one at Stamford Bridge, Robert Sanchez reclaimed his place in the starting side for the London derby.

Sanchez disappointed in our player ratings for the game, however Maresca praised Sanchez after making the tough call to hand him the start.

It didn’t take long for the Spaniard to cause away fans in attendance worries, with him getting lucky that an early misplaced pass did t result in a goal for Arsenal.

Ian Wright blames ‘strange’ Robert Sanchez for Chelsea conceding against Arsenal

The Blues only conceded one goal at the Emirates, with that coming from a set-piece via a Mikel Merino header.

Gary Cahill questioned Levi Colwill’s part in the ball ending up in the back of the net, and in truth it felt a soft way for Chelsea to lose a game they created very little in.

Ian Wright however believes it is Sanchez who is at fault for the goal, claiming he made a strange decision to leave his line.

He said during his coverage for Premier League productions: “He shouldn’t be there. He needs to be back on his line. It was strange. He’s got space where he is but he’s got involved with an Arsenal player.

Robert Sanchez’s Chelsea future

While Maresca has defended whoever has been between the sticks this season, it seems behind the scenes the opinion has not been the same.

Reports have claimed Maresca wants a new goalkeeper this summer, with a figure who is good with the ball at his feet something that is required.

This could pose bad news for current loanee Djordje Petrovic, who despite having an excellent season at Strasbourg is not the strongest in possession.

The goalkeeper position is one Chelsea fans believe should have strengthened more for a while now, and whoever they land on is going to be under scrutiny from the minute they arrive at Stamford Bridge.
