New injury concern for Liverpool after Carabao Cup final loss

Arne Slot’s Liverpool has a new injury concern for his Reds following the Carabao Cup final loss to Newcastle at Wembley Stadium.

Liverpool missed a golden chance to lay claim to Arne Slot’s first piece of silverware since he was appointed as the head coach when they went down 2-1 to Newcastle United in the EFL Cup final on Sunday.

Newcastle took the lead in the first half through Dan Burn, who nodded home from Kieran Trippier’s corner kick before in-form striker Alexander Isak showed his razor instincts to finish from inside the box. Liverpool found a consolation goal late in stoppage time through substitute Federico Chiesa but it proved too little, too late for the Reds.

In a game void of many positives for the Reds, they were dealt another blow towards the end of the match, as one of their star youngsters suffered an injury concern following a challenge by Newcastle’s midfielder Joelinton.

Midfielder injury concern for Liverpool

Harvey Elliott could have sustained a fresh injury following a dangerous tackle from Joelinton in the Carabao Cup final.

Following the Reds’ equaliser through Chiesa, in the 11th minute of stoppage time, while Liverpool were looking to play out from the back through Elliott, the Magpies’ Brazilian midfielder Joelinton pulled him down by the neck while making an aggressive lunge at his ankle that took him off his feet.

Although VAR took a look at the challenge, it was deemed unworthy of being a red card punishment, despite the challenge being off the ball.

However, Elliott appeared to have been badly affected by the brutal challenge.

Unfortunately, Elliott looked to have been hurt and had to be assisted off the pitch by medical staff at the end of the game.

According to thisisanfield, the young lad was spotted limping out of the stadium, with the evidence suggesting that he might have sustained an injury.

The England U21 international will continue to be assessed by Liverpool, who are not in action for the next two weeks due to the first international break of the year.

Arne Slot will be hoping this injury concern for a player who has the second fewest minutes played this season, is a minor one for the Reds.
