Callum Wilson played an important role in Newcastle United winning the Carabao Cup.
The 33-year-old was introduced in the 81st minute, helping Newcastle United run the clock down and win their first domestic trophy since 1955.
Normally when Callum Wilson comes on, the aim is to score a goal. But Sunday was all about protecting a lead. After replacing Alexander Isak, Wilson spent most of his cameo trying to break the game up and keep the ball in the corner, rather than find the back of the net.
He did his job, as Newcastle United beat Liverpool to win the 2025 Carabao Cup final.

Callum Wilson’s awkward moment after Carabao Cup win
The Newcastle United squad partied long into the night, before returning to Tyneside on Monday.
Those who are not representing their country flew back to Newcastle, with the club’s social media team filming the players and staff getting off the plane as winners.
Eddie Howe had the trophy in his hand, as his players followed behind.

One of those was Callum Wilson, who nearly endured a very embarrassing moment as he got off the plane and walked down the stairs.
The Magpies’ number nine slipped, but was able to steady himself before taking a tumble and hitting the deck.
It is hard to make out what he says due to the noise of the plane, but it sounds like he says something along the lines of ‘can’t get injured again’ before letting out a laugh.

It has been a tough period for Wilson, so it is great to see him get his hands on some silverware.
The striker has only been able to make 12 appearances so far this season, with two of them coming in the Carabao Cup.
In total, Wilson has missed 26 games this season due to back and hamstring injuries.
With 10 games to go in the 2024/25 campaign, Wilson will be keen to add to his tally of one goal.
