Arsenal managed to keep Chelsea quiet with some solid defensive work, making the 1-0 lead enough to hand them the three points at the Emirates.
It leaves Mikel Arteta‘s side second in the Premier League, 12 points behind league leaders Liverpool. It also helped to cement the Gunners’ place in the Champions League spots for next season.
However, despite the win, former Arsenal striker Ian Wright, was disappointed with the performance. He said on Matchday Live: “In the end, they won the game, which is great, but I was a little bit more disappointed in the fact you’ve got to try.
“We’ve got to try and do more in respect for scoring goals, because it’s one nil, it’s never done. We’re just fortunate that Chelsea were so poor today.”
It goes back to the question of why Arsenal have not signed a striker this season, as they had 12 shots during the game against Chelsea, with just four on target.
Who could Arsenal add in the summer transfer window?
Arsenal have been linked to several strikers in the past two seasons, and they are expected to sign one during the summer transfer window.
They did make a move for Aston Villa attacker Ollie Watkins in January, but it was rejected. It is unlikely that the Gunners will add him in the summer.
Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak is likely to be a target for the Gunners, however, he is only expected to be available for a transfer if the Magpies fail to qualify for the Champions League.
Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig remains a strong target for Arsenal as he is only 21, already proven in the Bundesliga, and a target man number nine…exactly what Arteta is looking to add in summer.
