Preview, Squad List, Team News: Real Madrid vs. Arsenal; UEFA Women’s Champions League…

Preview

Real Madrid face Arsenal in the quarter-finals of UEFA Women’s Champions League. Las Blancas await the North London team on Di Stefano for the first leg of the first eliminatory phase.

Arsenal came first in Group C, ahead of Bayern Munich, and have been drawn to play Real Madrid for the first time in history. They won 5 of their group-stage matches, losing only the first leg against Bayern. Real Madrid won 4 where they lost both encounters with Chelsea. Both teams have recently been eliminated from their respective domestic cups and hold second place in the league standings. Arsenal are tied with Manchester United with points in the Women’s Super League and are on a 4-game win streak.

“We have a good chance of being among the top four teams in Europe and I think the progression is steady. There are things that are not seen, but we are progressing adequately. We are in the best season of our five years. We’ve played a final, a Cup semi-final, Champions League quarter-finals and in the league we’re close to the first. Until March we are involved in all competitions and we have done well, but we want to take a step further. We know that it is an important moment and the opponent we have is difficult, but the players are ready to take another step, we are strong and with the right mentality,” speaks Alberto Toril ahead of the first leg against Arsenal.

Kickoff is on Tuesday, March 18th, at 18:45 CET (17:45 GMT) on Alfredo di Stefano.
